Notes
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE Wi-Fi (SM-T733) runs Nura on the downstream Samsung 5.4 kernel (5.4.254-qgki) with Phosh and XFCE. (Did not test others).
Panel dies on blank
Any FBIOBLANK or DPMS powers the panel off and only a reboot brings it back. Idle blank, lockscreen and gsd-power blank are all disabled. Screen off is done by setting backlight brightness to 0.
qpnp_pon reports both POWER and VOLUMEDOWN with no scancodes, so it can't be filtered with hwdb. The port hides it from libinput and uses a daemon that reads the raw node: short press toggles backlight, long press powers off, and volume-down is re-emitted via uinput.
Shutdown can panic
The SDE driver can abort in sde_hw_lm_clear_dim_layer during shutdown. This shows as a panic that hangs or reboots. Seen in ramoops, no fix yet.
Installation
Prerequisites
- Unlocked bootloader
- odin4 installed
- Stop ModemManager: sudo systemctl stop ModemManager - it may interfere with download mode
Heimdall only worked for print-pit on this device. For boot, vendor_boot and userdata it failed with "Failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence". I used odin4 instead. adb is not used for flashing, only for rebooting if you want.
deviceinfo_flash_method is set to none, so pmbootstrap will refuse to flash. Flash by hand.
Build
pmbootstrap init
# choose samsung-gts7fewifi
pmbootstrap install --split
Flash
This uses GKI header v3, so both boot.img and vendor_boot.img must be flashed. pmbootstrap builds the images but cannot flash this device (no flasher method, GKI v3). odin4 is used for flashing. Userdata is preserved during this process. Rename the tar accordingly,
samsung-gts7fewifi-root.img > userdata.img
boot.img > boot.img
samsung-gts7fewifi-boot.img > super.img
vendor_boot.img > vendor_boot.img
Since the image super.img and userdata.img is too large you must use img2simg
img2simg samsung-gts7fewifi-root.img userdata.img
img2simg gts7fewifi-boot.img super.img
tar -cf pmos-openrc.tar boot.img vendor_boot.img super.img userdata.img
Enter download mode: power off, hold Vol Down + Vol Up, plug USB
sudo odin4 -a ~/path/to/pmos-samsung-gts7fewifi.tar
sudo odin4 --reboot
First boot
USB networking is always 172.16.42.1, SSH as user with password 147147. Firmware for ADSP, GPU, IPA and Venus is copied from the device's own apnhlos partition at boot, no manual extraction needed.
