Community

From Nura Wiki

This page covers the official methods of interacting with the community, either self-hosted or directly moderated by the Nura team. Interacting with the community is important, so we can help out each other, build stuff together and overall accelerate development. But also to casually converse, share opinions, and generally have good time.

Microblogging & forum

  • Mastodon - Microblogging posts directly from the Nura team.
  • Lemmy - Forum dedicated to topics for Nura, moderated by core Nura contributors.

Matrix and IRC

See also: Matrix and IRC

If you are new to the project, this is a decent place to connect with others. These are live chat rooms that you can connect to, even using your web browser. We have various channels ranging from general discussion, to development chatting, to lowlevel firmware hacking. It can serve as more casual alternative to posting a work item on GitLab.

GitLab work items

Firstly, Gitlab is used for technical discussions, bug reports and feature requests. Secondly, it is used to create topics for discussions, like where the direction of the project is heading, new blog posts, infrastructure, wiki suggestions etc. These discussions are often more formal, so if you're looking for casual community interaction, see the other options.

FAQ

Why not use ...?

We believe our current communication channels are sufficient, but if you feel like requesting a different one is truly beneficial to the community, you can do so here.

See a previous issue about this for more information nura.eco#74. Note that we take care to avoid proprietary platforms for our discussions.[1]

Where are the wiki talk pages?

While on a standard MediaWiki deployment the talk pages are used to discuss wiki related issues, we use work items on GitLab and the a dedicated Matrix/IRC channel. GitLab is used because developers can manage these issues in a more central place. The Matrix/IRC channel is made available for people who want to casually discuss certain wiki topics.

Hint You can get started with editing the wiki using the Wiki's Editor's guide. It will help you get familiar with the wiki rules, styling guide and the MediaWiki syntax.
